What it does

Apache Hadoop is an open-source (Apache-2.0) framework for storing and processing very large data sets across clusters of ordinary machines. It combines HDFS, a distributed file system, YARN for job scheduling and cluster resource management, and MapReduce for parallel processing, and handles hardware failures in software. It underpins many big-data tools such as Hive and Spark on YARN.
