What it does

Chroma is an open-source search database for AI applications (Apache-2.0), written largely in Rust. It stores documents with embeddings and supports vector, sparse (BM25 and SPLADE), full-text, regex and metadata search, plus dataset forking. It runs embedded in Python or JavaScript apps, self-hosted, or on Chroma Cloud, a serverless service built on object storage.
